It’s been a minute since I’ve posted, but today I want to open up about a new chapter in my life that many of you may be navigating as well: aging parents.
Many of you who were partners at Victory Bolt might recognize this man, my dad. He worked alongside me for many years, and his strength, determination, and vibrant personality have always inspired me. Seeing him in a vulnerable state now is difficult, to say the least.
Recently, he suffered a nasty fall that resulted in a fractured skull and plenty of bumps and bruises. It could have been worse, but thankfully, he’s still here with us. Watching him face this challenge has been a powerful reminder of resilience and the importance of adapting to life’s unexpected hurdles.
You might know that the nonprofit I co-founded, The Victory Advantage, supports individuals facing disabilities of all kinds. Some have asked why this mission resonates so deeply with me, and here’s the truth: at some point, disability or caregiving will touch all of our lives. Whether it’s a bathroom renovations, ramps, wheelchairs, or walkers, these needs often arrive unannounced whether for our parents, ourselves, or someone we love after an accident or unexpected diagnosis.
After a brief hospital stay, my dad is doing well. His determination is remarkable, yesterday, I watched him tackle in-home rehabilitation with the same vigor and spirit that carried him through 85 incredible years. He told me,
“I may be a little banged up, but I’m grateful to still be here and thankful for the care and support of those around me.”
Even now, he’s teaching me and everyone around him life lessons: how to push forward, how to lean on gratitude, and how to meet challenges with grace. His goal? To regain the strength he once had, as he puts it, the strength he had at 70.
I’m so proud to be his daughter and grateful for the example he continues to set. Let this be a reminder to cherish those you love, prepare for life’s curveballs, and find strength in gratitude.
Here’s to resilience, family, and the lessons we learn together.
